About our care

Support built around the person, not a routine.

Our care starts with the individual: who they are, what matters to them, the choices they make and the life they want to lead.

We listen to each person and work with them, their family and the professionals involved to shape support around their preferences, strengths and goals. As their needs change, we review and adapt their care while respecting their dignity and independence.

Frequently asked questions

Helpful answers about care.

If your question is not covered here, contact our team for a confidential conversation.

What is domiciliary care?

Domiciliary care is professional support provided in your own home. It is entirely flexible and can include help with personal care, washing, dressing, medication support, meal preparation, and establishing daily routines. The goal is to help you maintain your independence and comfort in familiar surroundings.

Can Hands That Care support people with complex needs?

Yes. Subject to a thorough individual assessment and ensuring we have appropriate staffing and specific training in place, we can provide dedicated support for complex needs. This includes spinal cord injuries, acquired brain injuries, neurological conditions, hoist and mobility assistance, catheter and continence support, established bowel-care routines, and pressure-area care.

What is the difference between home care and live-in care?

Home care (or domiciliary care) involves a care professional visiting you at scheduled times during the day or night to assist with specific routines or tasks. Live-in care involves a dedicated care professional living in your home with you, providing consistent support, companionship, and reassurance around the clock.

What is supported living?

Supported living is a service designed to help people live as independently as possible in their own tenancy or accommodation. We provide tailored, practical support to help build life skills, manage daily household tasks, attend appointments, and participate meaningfully in the local community.

Can you support children and young people?

Yes, we offer age-appropriate personal care and support for disabled children and young people. All support in this area is subject to assessed needs and the availability of our specialist services, and is always planned in close partnership with the family to ensure the child’s comfort and well-being.

How do I arrange care?

Arranging care starts with a simple conversation. You can contact our team to discuss your current situation and the support you might need. From there, we will arrange a detailed care assessment to understand your routines, risks, and preferences, allowing us to build a highly personal care plan together.

Can family members be involved?

Absolutely. We strongly believe in working in partnership with families. With your permission, we maintain open, compassionate communication with your loved ones, ensuring they are kept informed and reassured about your well-being, while always respecting your primary choices and privacy.

Can care be arranged at short notice?

We understand that circumstances can change suddenly and care needs can arise unexpectedly. While all care packages are subject to a safe assessment and staff availability, we will always do our utmost to respond swiftly to urgent requests to ensure you have the support you need.

How much does care cost?

Because our care is entirely tailored to the individual, costs vary depending on the level, frequency, and complexity of the support required. Following our initial conversation and care assessment, we will provide you with a clear, transparent breakdown of the costs involved, with no hidden fees.

What happens if needs change?

We know that life, health, and personal goals are not static. We regularly review your care plan and listen to your feedback. If your needs, preferences, or circumstances change, we will adapt your support alongside you, ensuring you are always receiving the right level of care.

Let’s find the right care together.

Whether you are arranging support for yourself, a loved one or someone you work with, we are ready to listen and discuss the next step.
